child digital safetyAsk kids – if it is easy, safe and useful to own a smart phone, they’ll never answer you in negation but when you ask the same to their parents, you get a kind of mixed emotions – some feel happy and safe in letting their kids to have their own cell phones whereas some feel like a perfect paranoid and find it a risky business.

Even when the battle on “to possess” or “not to possess” a cell phone continues pretty well; you can always find kids to have their own cell phones and even the smart phones. Now if you belong to the brigade of suspecting parents, you’ll always feel like restricting your child from owning a personal cell phone.

However, asking your child not to own cell phone may not be a very practical thing but making the device safer and less secretive is always a better option.  This will let you keep a close watch on whatever your child does with the phone in your absence.

Check out how you can do it most effective way.

Manually check your child’s device

Go through your child’s phone; check out every single file and folder on it. Yes, even the deleted items (in fact, it will have more important things to check than the other folders) and those with funny or suspicious looking names.

But this will require you to be tactful. First, you’ll have to deal with your child and let him understand that it is important and by going through the phone you aren’t intruding and only double checking his safety. You’ll need to do it in friendliest possible way without creating any friction between your child and you.

Second, you’ll have to be smart enough to handle your child’s phone and be familiar with its usage and features. It is really important or else you’ll only make a fool of yourself with no fruitful results. Know your child’s phone well, search the Internet to know about its features or ask your child to teach you, in fact, it will be a much better way to do it as it will also bring your child in your confidence; and while your child tries to teach you the features, quickly check all the folders on it!

Well, there’s one sad part also. Your child can delete away all the suspicious things before handing over the phone to you.

Question your child to know his digital life

Communicate with your child on a regular basis. In fact, make it a daily job. It will be much better, if you put it on your “to do” list or set reminder for it. Ask your child about the latest things at his end. Best way is to start casually but move on to what you want to know. This will also help you have a better bonding with your child.

One of the best questions to ask can be – “So, what’s your favorite rock star doing on the social media lately?” Or something like – “Your friends love chatting, don’t they?” Or something more specific that has been bothering you for a while.

Use Cell Phone monitoring software to know the secrets

In manual checking your child’s device, you may or may not reach the secret folders on your child’s phone but with monitoring software on the phone you’ll get to know about each and every thing saved up on phone starting from the contacts on the phone book to the memos, notes, apps and games.

Your child will easily bypass your questions or will never let you know about the real thing when you’ll try asking him but when you monitor the phone, nothing remains hidden anymore. You get know it all. You’ll know your child’s friends; things communicated through calls, texts, messenger chatting and mails; location on the Google Map through GPS location tracking and the Internet activities of your child.

So, monitor your child’s cell phone and let your child enjoy owning a cell phone or even a smart phone without compromising over his safety by just one smart step of installing monitoring software on the device!
