Christina Rhysheck, and Greg Boliard at the DeVos Performance Hall on Jan. 24, 2017. Mr. Boliard, owner of Boliard Martial Arts Studio, was amazed by the similarity between some of the classical Chinese dance movements and those of martial arts. (NTD Television)

“[Shen Yun was] phenomenal, mesmerizing.”

“I was so sad when one [dance] would end but, ‘Oh, wait! There’s going to be more.

“The talent, the level of the talent—and not just the dancers, all the way down to the tiniest detail—the costumes; that’s a lot of talent going into that show. It’s a God-given talent.”

“I’m going to go again. I’ll never miss it.”

“It was an honor to see them. It really was. It was an honor to experience their gifts. It was a blessing to me to be able to see that. It’s beautiful.”

History of Shen Yun

In 2006, Chinese artists who wanted to revive China’s authentic traditional culture and share it with the world established Shen Yun Performing Arts in New York. Shen Yun has since grown to five companies that tour the world, performing in over 150 theaters each year.

Classical Dance

Classical Chinese dance, passed down and enriched over thousands of years, has deep roots in the traditional Chinese culture and its ideas about beauty and grace. It is a comprehensive system that is nuanced and elegant, as well as physically demanding, incorporating dramatic flips and tumbling techniques that share a common ancestry with the martial arts.
